I’m a pretty driven guy. I like to get things done, see results, and make a difference in people’s lives. But, that only happens if I am organized and minimize distractions. And it all starts with my planning and my desk.
My best days are when I have a clear plan of action, work on the hardest 50% of my work in the first 90 minutes and have a clear area to work from. And that requires discipline.
Every Friday invest in Monday
Every Friday I have a ritual that saves my bacon and gets me on track for a bullet-proof Monday. I call it my “Friday 15”.
Watch this short video where I explain how I use my Friday 15 to maximize my results, and minimize bozo distractions.
Here’s what I listed in the video:
Get rid of the clutter. There are lots of excuses, but no good reasons. Just a couple of minutes and you have a success-start on the next day.
Do a review: rethink and revise the previous week. Ask: what worked, didn’t work? Look for patterns: what keeps happening that you don’t like and need to change?
Block time for work on important projects. This is critical. You must create chunks of concentrated focus-time, just like you would for a client appointment.
Are you investing in your Friday 15? Let me know in the comments below (I’ll write back).
Thank you for sharing this, Hugh. It sounds so simple but many times we forget and neglect to do all three. This will be helpful in making me more productive this year.
Thanks Meriam – I’m so glad it hit home for you. Here’s to an amazing year for you!
